One of the key specification of a lens is its focal lenght, determines the character of the image. Focal lenght inc., magnified the image inc. In principle, the focal lenght gives the unmagnified view equals the diagonal measurement of the image. For example, for a 35mm camera, that is 50mm. 2/3 inch CCD, zoom lense with a range 8.2-25.8mm is equal to 34-107 mm on 35mm. Digitals need more resolution lenses because of small size of individual sensor elements. Normal view is 50degree = 50mm on 35mm. Wide angle means 60-100 degree.
